DON TURKISH is a non-glazed bowl. These bowls are handcrafted and made out of white and heat-resistant clay (chamotte). They are not glazed and are going through milk-firing technique.
What is milk-firing technique and why is it so important?
After the bowl was shaped and fired at temperature of 2.192 F (1200 C) small pores appears in clay that allows it easily absorb tobacco syrup and keep the smell of such tobacco flavors as “Double Apple”, for instance. The smell can stay even after multiple washes. So in order to prevent it the bowl that went through first firing process is deepen into the whole milk, which covers invisible pores in clay by creating an oily coating and going though second firing process(milk-firing) at a temperature of 752 F (400 C). As a result – we have a bowl without open pores that prevents it from keeping tobacco smell, thus you won’t be able to feel the previous tobacco flavor with every other packing. So as we can see the main purpose of milk-firing is to prolong the bowl’s usage time and to improve the smoking quality.
Also, tobacco heats evenly in these bowls, it cannot be overheated and the bowl keeps the heat longer comparing to other bowls due to its thick edges. Moreover, it prevents the upper tobacco layer from burning. In addition, bowl’s neck remains cool externally that allows you to remove it from the rig without burning yourself.
These Don Bowls have 6 large holes that provides a good smoke circulation and allows to fully feel the tobacco taste. Its capacity is approximately 15-25 g., depending on the density type. These bowls are designed for classic and light shisha and can be used with kaloud as well as with the foil.
